Leland Y. Lee

At 88 architectural photographer Leland Y. Lee has enjoyed a career that spanned several decades and documented many of the high design homes and interiors in Los Angeles and Palm Springs. He studied with the famed architectural photographer Julius Shulman for seven years and was often used by Shulman as the human figure used in the shots for scale. Lee photographed for such luminaries as John Lautner, Arthur Elrod and Harold Broderick during the 1950 - 1970's, Lee photographed for prestigious publications such as Architectural Digest, Home Magazine, House & Garden, and Designers West.

Art+Industry is pleased to present the first ever solo exhibition of Leland Y. Lee's work. Focusing on images that Lee took at the house that John Lautner designed for Arthur Elrod on Southridge overlooking Palm Springs. The Elrod House was furnished with over 60 designs by Charles Hollis Jones and several of the actual furniture pieces appearing in the photographs will be presented as well.

Much of Lee's archival work was destroyed in a fire at his home studio several years ago and these photographs are a few images of what remains of a body of work that helped define the modern aesthetic in Southern California. Signed and numbered limited edition prints will be available for sale and a special reception for the artist will be held at the inaugural exhibition and opening of Art + Industry Friday March 24, 2006 7 - 9 pm. 115 South Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, CA.
